Martin Hunt (Lillington Bowls) made the semi finals once more with victory over Nathaniel Cleaver (Harbury 2nd). Richard Moore (Harbury 1st), playing in his first Fred Cowell Cup, defeated Frames 1st's Myles Matthews, and Ian Carter (Warwick Cons 1st) made the most of his handicap to beat Pash Jugpal (Windsor 1st), and former winner Phil Parkin (Nelson 1st) defeated Eddie Yates (Cubbington).
Richard Moore (Harbury 1st) made the final when he ended the run of Martin Hunt (Lillington Bowls) with a convincing win to make his first final. His opponent in the fnal will be Ian Carter (Warwick Cons 1st) after he defeated Phil Parkin (Nelson 1st) in a tight semi final.
The first round matches took place last night (Tuesday 8th May) with matches at Nelson Club and Priors Club. At Nelson Club, defending champion Bill Hills (Kenilworth Cons) made the most of his 32 handicap to win through on a respotted black against Lillington 2nd's Paul Ray (24). In other matches Lee Brookes (Warwick Cons 3rd - 42) beat Jason Harvey (Priors 2nd - 32), Myles Matthews (Frames 1st - 29) beat Andy Devey (Tachbrook - 21), and Martin Hunt (Lillingtob Bowls - 45) won a tight frame against Mark Smith (Priors 1st - 30). Scott Price (Warwick Cons 2nd - 37) received a walkover after Warwick University forfeited.
At Priors Club, a break of 34 from 2010 winner Phil Parkin (Nelson 1st - 6) saw him reduce the deficit to Windsor 2nd captain Paul Petrie (50), but Petrie wasted three glorious chances to win before Parkin edged over the line in a black ball finish. Ian Carter (Warwick Cons 1st - 21) overcame Salv Adamo (Nelson Oak 3rd - 49), and Leamington Liberals representative Joe Savage (43) defeated Lillington 1st's Dave Nash (24). Pash Jugpal (Windsor 1st - 0) and Gez Jones (Home Guard 1st - 20) received walkovers after their opponents failed to show.
The second round, quarter finals and semi finals take place at Kenilworth S&S Club tomorrow night (Thursday 10th).
Nelson 2nd will join Home Guard 2nd in the A Division next season. They needed a 7-0 win in their final match this week to keep alive their slim survival hopes. However, they went down 4-3 away at Home Guard 1st to seal their fate. Harj Dhesi compiled a 54 break for the guard who also saw wins through Ian Grindrod, Lyndon Bufton and Dave Lane. Wayne Roberts, Denis Farr and Jim Bateson were Nelson's scorers. Frames 3rd signed off with a 6-1 win in their derby match against Frames 1st thanks to wins from Neil King, Sati Virdi, Stu Higgins, Nigel Whittaker, Loz Plant and Kev Ward. Myles Matthews won for the 1st side. Lillington 2nd, knowing they were safe, pulled off an excellent 4-3 win against champions Windsor 1st, who only had 5 players available for the match, and Warwick Cons 1st won 4-3 away at Lillington 1st. Harbury 1st won the Harbury derby 4-3 against their second string, and the one result not yet in saw runners up Nelson 1st host Home Guard 2nd.
The battle for the second promotion came down to the last match of the season, with Kenilworth Cons needing to outscore Priors 2nd by two points. However Kenilworth went down 4-3 against Warwick University, who sealed 4th place, meaning Priors would only need 2 points. Wins from Brian Wimbush, Neil Chamberlain, Jason Harvey, Dean Young and Steve Williams saw them to a 5-2 win to seal promotion and make it a Priors one-two. Nelson's winners were Lee Mitchell and Craig Owen. Lillington 3rd finish 5th in the table after signing off in style with a 7-0 victory over Warwick Cons 2nd. This left the door open for Warwick Cons 3rd to overtake their club rivals in thetable, which they duly took with a 4-3 home win over Lillington Bowls thanks to wins from Pete White, Jack White, Paul Gleeson and Tim Dawson. Leamington Liberals finished the season with a 5-2 victory away at Windsor 2nd thanks to frame from James Shilliday, Mark Smith, Will Desay, Martin Draper and Paul Almond. Captain Paul Petrie and Jon Harries won for Windsor. Cubbington lost out in a deciding frame to go down 4-3 against Kenilworth S&S.
